MINNESOTA SEAFOOD PROCESSORS BEWARE

The Minneapolis District Office of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration has instituted over zealous enforcement actions against several reputable seafood processors in Minnesota. An unnamed enforcement officer has told processors that she intends to shut them down.

None of the violations have been serious or have included any recalls or illness, but rather failure to respond to, or correct previous benign violations in a timely manner.

FDA June 2008 Excerpt:

"We simply can't allow a company to put the public's health at risk by not having adequate procedures and plans to produce safe food," said Margaret O'K. Glavin, associate commissioner for regulatory affairs. "Our warning letters should not be taken lightly. We will take action against companies and against their executives who violate the law and endanger public health."

The Minneapolis FDA abuses its legal might to force processors into signing a Consent Decree, which gives the FDA unlimited control over the processors operations.

Adding insult to injury, the FDA charges the processor every time they visit and for every laboratory test they order. They immediately issue press releases which further damage to the processors reputation.
